The Fine Arts Dept. and the Class of 2013 are pleased to announce the Senior Musical production of Footloose. It tells the story of Ren McCormack, an upbeat Chicago teen who moves to a small town in Texas where dancing and rock music have been banned due to the efforts of a local minister. The show is a perfect vehicle for DHS Seniors to sing and dance to some great music. Music Teacher and Footloose Director Bill Nicholson says the cast is set and over 50 Seniors have started daily rehearsals to present the show to the community on March 15th and 16th. Ticket info will be posted here on our website as the show approaches. Good luck to the entire cast. Rehearsal Schedules and updates can be found by clicking on the Senior Musical link above.
In December, our annual Winter Holiday Concerts were presented throughout town. Congratulations to all performing students and music teachers for their entertaining and impressive performances. Recognition should also be given to the Dedham School of Music for their assistance in providing the elementary instrumental lesson program. You can get info on their programs by clicking on their link to the right.
January marks Fine Arts Department preparations for winter and spring events. The DHS Winter Guard has their first performance in Salem on Saturday, Jan. 26th. We have also finalized another spring event – Dedham Jazz Night on Tuesday, April 9th. This concert will feature students from the Middle and High School Jazz Bands and Select Choruses. Details will be posted here as the event approaches.
The Dedham American Legion is starting a band and color guard program at the post. The Dedham Music Association will offer a concert by the Parkway Concert Orchestra on March 3rd at Dedham Middle School to raise funds for DPS Music programs. This ensemble features polished musicians from the area and will be inviting members of the DMS and DHS Bands to perform a piece with them at the concert. Interested students will be asked to attend a brief rehearsal on Monday, February 25 at DMS. Look for ticket info here as the concert approaches.
Welcome should be given to new Fine Arts Department staff members. Mr. Lennie Machado is the new Theatre Club coach and will be directing the METG (Mass. Ed. Theatre Guild) entry in March, and the Spring Production in April. The Director of the Winter Guard is Ms. Jackie Gaffney, who also worked successfully with the DHS Marching Band in the fall. The Musical Choreographer is Mr. Michael Lombo. Mr. Lombo has performed in and staged countless productions in his career and has begun to work his magic with our Footloose dancers.
