Globe Art Awards – The Fine Arts Department would like to congratulate Meiya Bao Berkey for receiving a silver key for her mixed media piece, <–Book Thoughts, in the annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Contest. Her piece will be on display in the State Transportation Building (10 Park Plaza) in Boston from February 11 through April 19, 2013. The exhibit is open weekdays 9:00 -5:00, including holidays and on Saturday & Sunday noon to 4:00p.m. Senior Christina Topouzakis received an honorable mention for her three dimensional piece titled Racket.
Four DHS Band students performed in the Bridgewater State University High School Honors Band on Thursday, February 7th. The band was conducted by Dr. Mark Whitlock from The University of Minnesota, Duluth and featured a variety of selections that challenged the entire band. Congratulations again to Seniors Sarah Emanuel and Alex Kyriakis (middle), and Juniors Merissa Jansky and John Rocha. A short video from the dress rehearsal is posted on the ->marauderband site.
The Dedham Music Association has announced the date for its Spring Recycling fundraiser. This event will be on April 23rd from 8:30 to noon. It will take place in the middle school parking lot. Electronics will be accepted with fees determined by the particular item being turned in. Donations are also accepted from anyone who wishes to stop by. All proceeds go to benefit Dedham music programs.
The DMA is also presenting a benefit concert in partnership with Dedham Savings Bank on Sunday, March 3rd. This concert will feature the ->Parkway Concert Orchestra. More info is available by clicking on the flyer to the left. You can make ticket reservations by calling 781-326-1667. We want to encourage middle and high school band students to perform a combined piece with the orchestra at the concert. There will be a brief rehearsal on Monday, Feb. 25th for participating students.
The DHS Theatre Club is preparing for their METG preliminary round appearance at Sharon HS on Saturday, March 2nd. Members of the club participating will receive a lengthy info packet this week. There are several forms that need to be returned before vacation. The students will be presenting their production of Voice of Treason for families and friends on Tuesday evening, February 26 at 7 in the DHS Auditorium. All are welcome to see the premier of this original play by Lucy Kindstrand. On Wednesday 2/27 the cast and tech crew will be traveling to Sharon for their official METG ‘tech rehearsal’. The bus will leave DHS by 2:25 and return by 4:45. More on this will be included in the info packet being distributed. The Drama Club will be having rehearsals over school vacation.
The Drama Club has also posted the dates for Spring Production. Scheduled for Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16, this production will feature the full Theatre club in their final stage production of the year.
The DHS Winter Guard continued their strong start in Scholastic A class competitions run by the New England Scholastic Band Association. They placed first in both the Salem and Norwood shows, and have received raves from judges and fans alike. They now prepare for a busy stretch in March that will take them to the New England Championships on April 6. You can see video from the first shows on the ->marauderband site.
The Class of 2013 needs your help! The Senior Class is asking family members and the entire business community to support their musical Footloose by buying ads for the program book. The deadline for ad submission is March 1st. You can open and print the ad form by clicking on the thumbnail to the left. Ads can be mailed to: DHS Musical, 140 Whiting Ave., attention Steve Dewar. The Footloose cast is also rehearsing over school vacation. Schedules are posted above in the Senior Musical tab.
