As the Fine Arts Department heads into the home stretch of the school year, we look forward to a few more upcoming memorable events.


The Dedham Public Schools Annual Art Show will be held at Dedham Middle School on Thursday, May 23 from 6 to 8pm.  Artwork by students from grades pre-k through 12 will be presented throughout the building to highlight the talents of countless students with the support and guidance of Art teachers throughout the school system.  The public is welcome to attend this celebration of the artistic achievements of so many Dedham students from this past school year.

steelMagLogoWord+The DHS Drama Guild will presenting their production of ‘Steel Magnolias’ in the DHS auditorium on Wednesday, May 15 and Thursday, May 16 at 7pm. This will be the final performance of the year and will feature students both acting and honing their backstage technical skills.  Tickets will be sold at the door starting at 6:30 each evening.

We are entering the Spring Concert season with many events taking place in May and June.  We begin with the annual All-Town Elementary Instrumental Concert. This event will be held in the middle school auditorium on Thursday, May 16 with first notes at 7pm.  This concert will feature band and string students from all four elementary schools combining into larger ensembles.  Student report time is 6:30.

On Tuesday, May 21, Dedham High School will hold their annual Spring Concert.  Performances by the concert and jazz bands, as well as the concert and AVE choruses will be joined by the return of the DHS Alumni Chorus.  Students have been preparing a program that included concert, classical, and popular favorites for friends and families.  The alumni chorus will hold their final 2 rehearsals on Monday, May 13 at DHS and on Monday, May 20 at Dedham Middle School.  Rehearsal files can be found in the àsidebar

Dedham Middle School will present two Spring Concerts just after Memorial Day.  The DMS Instrumental Concert will feature band and orchestra students on Tuesday, May 28th at 7pm. The Choral Concert will be held the evening of May 30.  All are welcome to come and enjoy these evenings of great music by our middle school students.

DSCN7229On April 30th, the All Town Choral Festival was held at DHS.  Students from grades 5 through 12 sang a variety of selections for a full house of appreciative families, teachers, and friends. The night was highlighted by a combined performance by almost 400 students raising their voices in harmony to close the concert. Congratulations to all students and a heart felt thank you to our choral teachers for putting this concert together: Bryan Bigelow, Samantha Gelfon, Heather Kirby, William Nicholson, and Jeffrey Taylor.

DSCN7305On Tuesday, May 7, the DHS Fine Arts Department and the Music Association of Dedham High School presented their annual Spring Awards ceremony at the Endicott Estate for performing groups. Students from band, chorus, winter color guard, and drama guild were recognized for their accomplishments throughout the school year. After light refreshments and a performance by the DHS AVE Chorus, teachers and coaches Awards list 2013awarded certificates to all participating students. Those members who deserved special recognition for contributions to this year’s performing ensembles were then recognized, along with students who were selected for achievement at the district and regional level. Special Awards are listed in the thumbnail to the left – click to read. Congratulations to all students for an outstanding year of performances.
