June

The Fine Arts Department is wrapping up an amazing stretch of public performances and displays over the past several weeks.  We finish the performance season with our elementary spring concerts.  The Greenlodge concerts get us started on Wednesday, June 5th with performances at 9:15 and 1:15 in the gym. Oakdale Concerts will be held at 9:16 and 1:16 on Thursday, June 6, followed by Avery on Friday, 6/7 at 9:15 and 1:45, and Riverdale on Monday, June 10th, also at 9:15 and 1:45. Performances will feature choral and instrumental performances by all students.

We will be offering band instrument demos to all fourth grade students the following week. Information on joining the 5th grade band program will be sent home with students. Lessons and instrument rentals will be offered upon our return to school in September.

We have posted slide shows of many of the events that have taken place over the last 3 weeks in the appropriate post category to the right.

Steel MagnoliasThe DHS Drama Guild put on a fantastic showing of Steel Magnolias in mid-May. Congrats to the cast and crew and Director Lennie Machado for all of their hard work.  We have posted a slide show of photos from opening night in the DHS Drama Club post category in the top of the sidebar.

All TownOn the second night of the production, we also hosted the Dedham All Town Elementary Instrumental Concert at Dedham Middle School.  This concert featured all of our string and band students who have been participating in our after school lesson program run in partnership with the Dedham School of Music.  The orchestra and combined bands were impressive as most of the students have only been playing since October.  Thanks to all students and teachers for working so hard to make this night possible.

DSCN8161Both Dedham Middle School and Dedham High School held their annual Spring Concerts in the past two weeks. Some strong performances by our very talented musicians delighted the crowds. It was great to see the return of the DHS Alumni/Staff Chorus at the DHS event. Welcome back and we hope this tradition remains an annual event. The combined DHS and Alumni Choruses, accompanied by a few DHS band students was a highlight of the night.

DSCN7884The Dedham All-District Art Show was held at DMS on May 23rd. The amazing talents of so many artists, and the tremendous efforts of their art teachers were evident throughout the halls of the middle school. The halls were packed with appreciative art lovers from throughout the community.  Accompanied by music by individual students and the DMS Jazz Band, this event continues to grow and has become one of the most anticipated events in the school calendar.  Look for photos of many of the art submissions in the photo gallery.

There will be a DHS Fine Arts parent meeting on Tuesday, June 11th in the DHS Band Room at 6:30. Parents of band, chorus, and theatre students are invited to attend. We especially welcome the parents of the incoming Freshman class to attend to get information about Fine Arts programs and to get involved with the Dedham Music Association.  Any questions can also be directed to Fine Arts Director Jeff Bolduc (jbolduc@dedham.k12.ma.us).

Dedham High and Middle School Band students will be combining to perform at this year’s Dedham Flag Day Parade on Friday, June 14.  Students will be rehearsing together during school in the week leading up to the parade.  Report time is 5:30 across the street from the Dedham Community House.  More info will be sent home with students as this event approaches.

Finally, we’d like to wish the best of luck to all graduating seniors as they move on to life after DHS.  Please keep singing, performing, drawing, and acting as you head out into the world.
