October finds the Fine Arts Department in high gear as many of our programs are up and running, or close to their first performances.
The elementary band and string lesson program started their full schedule on October 1st. Students from all four schools will be taking lessons after school with teachers from the Dedham School of Music. If there is a student who didn’t get to enroll and would still like information, please contact the Dedham School of Music at: 781 441-9372.
Our 4th grade music classes just started the annual journey to learn the recorder. This program introduces them to a wind instrument, reinforces music performance skills, and allows students to experience the fun of performing together with their class. Thanks to the Dedham Music Association for their assistance in ordering and delivering 225 recorders around the district.
We will be holding an informational meeting for Fine Arts parents on Wednesday, October 16th starting at 6:30 in the DHS band Room (behind the auditorium). The goal of this meeting is share items in need of support for our performing groups throughout the year, reorganize the Dedham Music Association, and to set long term goals to support the continued growth of all music ensembles, the color guard, and drama guild. All are welcome.
The DHS Marauder Marching Band will be competing in regional band shows sponsored by the New England Scholastic Band Association. The band will be performing music from Igor Stravinsky’s ballet ‘The Firebird’. This show presents special challenges to members of our band and guard with intricate rhythms, tricky melodic passages, and up-tempo marching demands. Hopefully the community can see the band at a NESBA show or any home football game.
The DHS Drama Guild is deep into rehearsals for their fall production of two short plays: Check, Please and Four Little Words. The play will be presented on Friday, November 8th and Saturday, November 9th. Ticket info, times, etc. will be in our November Update.
