December will feature Winter Concerts throughout the Dedham school system. The season kicks off with the DHS Concert on Tuesday, December 10th at 7 o’clock. The concert will feature the DHS Concert Choir and Band, Jazz Band, AVE Choir, and the first performance by the DHS String group. Donations will be accepted at the door.
The Dedham Middle School Concert will be held two nights later on December 12th, also at 7pm. Our elementary concerts begin the following morning at the Avery School on December 13th. There will be 2 concerts that day at Avery with the morning concert kicking off at 9:15 and the afternoon show at 1:15. All elementary concerts will feature grade level choral performances as well as instrumental groups.
The following week will present the Greenlodge concerts on Monday, December 16th, and both the Oakdale and Riverdale concerts on Thursday, December 19th. Good luck to all students and teachers at these exciting pre-holiday celebrations.
The DHS Winter Color Guard and Winter Percussion groups have started preparing for their 2014 season. The Winter Guard won every show in their class last year and missed the New England championship by .3, a very narrow margin. We are hoping to build on that success this year with new and returning members. They rehearse at Oakdale School on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. They will accept new members up until the holiday break. Contact Fine Arts Director Jeff Bolduc if interested (email@example.com). Winter Percussion (left) has many new members this year and welcome new Director Mark Sanchetta. This group rehearses Thursday evenings in the DHS band room.
The DHS Marauder Marching Band finished their season at the annual Dedham/Norwood Thanksgiving game. After halftime, members of both bands went into the DHS auditorium where the Dedham Music Association offered hot chocolate and snacks. The groups socialized and discussed their seasons and made new friends. This yearly tradition continues to be a highlight of the fall season for both bands. Thanks to all parents who lent a hand in making this such a memorable day.
Congratulations are in order to DHS tenth grader Noah Littman. Noah was accepted to the Mass. Eastern District Band and will represent Dedham at this regional festival on January 11th. Noah was first chair trombone in last years Junior District Festival, so making Senior Districts as a sophomore is an impressive step.
We’d also like to thank and congratulate members of the high school music program who entertained the crowd at the NEASC welcome reception in November. Juniors Derek Jameson, Andrew Maher, and Gabe Straight-Rattet had their group performing classic and current hits as Dedham welcomed teachers from all over New England to begin the recertification process. The band sounded great!
Members of the DHS band and the middle school A Cappella chorus participated in the annual Dedham Square Holiday Stroll on December 6th. Students performed holiday favorites in front of the Dedham Theater before playing Santa to the downtown tree for the official lighting. Thanks to all students who performed.
