Congratulations to DHS freshman Brendan Hart ->, eighth graders Isabella Badeau and Shanaya Theodore, and seventh grade student Maleka McBarnett on their acceptance into the MMEA Eastern Jr. District Festival. They auditioned with over 1,000 area students for a spot in the band, chorus, and orchestra and will represent Dedham at the March 29th concert at Lincoln-Sudbury HS. We also want to recognize four members of the DHS band chosen to represent Dedham at the Bridgewater State High School Honors Band Festival on February 13th at BSU. This year’s participants will be <-Matthew Naddaff on flute, Merissa Jansky on clarinet, Sara Buondonno on alto sax, and trumpet player John Rocha. They will perform with other students from across southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
The Senior Musical will be presented on March 14 and 15 by the Class of 2014. This year’s production will be Disney’s High School Musical. We hope to have ticket info available on this site soon. If you are interested in puchasing an ad for the program book, click on the form to the left, print and return as directed. The DHS Drama Club is performing in the statewide Mass. Drama Festival. Dedham has been scheduled to perform their original play The Fate of Living at Norwell HS on March 1st. Their performance time is 12:15. They will be presenting their production to the community on Monday evening, February 24th at 7 pm in the Dunne Auditorium.
DHS Winter Guard and Percussion continue to prepare for their competition season. The season begins at Everett HS on Sunday, March 2. The Guard is performing to the music of Kelly Clarkson’s People Like Us. Percussion will compete in Festival class of the New England Scholastic band Association. Both will participate in the New England Championships on March 29 and 30.
Although it’s February, we are beginning to prepare for Spring and end-of-year activities. Students in the middle and <-high school jazz bands are deep into preparations for the second annual Don Heald Night of Jazz on April 8th at DHS. The DHS Jazz Band will also be playing at the Dedham School of Music annual fund-raiser on April 6th at the Mother Brook Art Center. April will end with the All-Town Choral Festival on Wednesday, April 30.
The dates for elementary school Spring Concerts has been set. Please mark your calendar. The Oakdale concerts will be on Thursday, June 5th followed by Avery on June 6th. The final 2 events will be the Riverdale concert on June 12th and the Greenlodge performances on Monday, June 16th. The second semester for the elementary after-school lesson program begins this month. Students in these groups will also be performing at the Dedham School of Music annual fund-raiser on April 6th and at Dedham Middle School on the night of May 15th.
