Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Fate of Living for their impressive performance at the METG Dramafest preliminaries on March 1st. The DHS Drama Club presentation was written and directed by Dedham High senior Gail Coughlin. Set during the French Revolution, the Fate of Living cast included Maddie Curran, Kristen Aldous-Trainor, Jenn Tegnell, George Tanous, Sarah Perno, and Michael Curvin. Maddie Curran recieved an award for acting excellence at the Norwell preliminary site. We’d also like to recognize Club Advisor Katie McNamara for all her hard work. The Class of 2014 will present the annual DHS Senior Musical: Disney’s High School Musical on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15. The cast and crew have been rehearsing daily to polish the music and sync the dance numbers. Good luck! Tickets can be purchased in the DHS Office during school hours starting Monday, March 10. Adult tickets are $15. with student and senior tickets set at $10. Children under 12 are $5.
The Dedham Music Association will hold a parent meeting in the DHS Band Room on Wednesday, March 19 at 6:30. Parents of students in any performing arts (band, chorus, theater, color guard, percussion ensemble) are welcome. The DMA continues to push its mission to expand parent support to all Fine Arts programs. This requires an association with parents from all these groups. Please consider attending and getting involved
Congratulations to Meiya Berkey for receiving a gold key in the annual Boston Globe Scholastic Art Show. Her artwork entitled <-Peeking will be exhibited at Boston City Hall, March 7-28. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday, 9-5. Honorable mentions were awarded to Maggie O’Connor, Nelly Soule and Nalin Springer.
The DHS Winter Guard has started their season as they head towards the New England Championships on March 29 in Salem. The guard is performing to People Like Us by Kelly Clarkson. The DHS Winter Percussion ensemble will also be performing in the NESBA circuit this season. The New England percussion Finals performance will be at North Andover HS on March 30.
The DHS Jazz Band will be performing at the annual Unsung Dedham Concert presented by the Dedham School of Music. The concert will take place on Sunday, April 6th. The Jazz Band will be joined by the DHS chorus and the DMS Jazz Band for the 2nd annual Don Heald Night of Jazz concert on Tuesday, April 8.
The All Town Chorus Festival will feature chorus students from grades 5 to 12. Teachers are already planning another memorable finale with a combined chorus of almost 300 students. The concert will be in the Dunne Auditorium at DHS on Wednesday, April 30th.
Finally, we are happy to promote the Dedham Open Studios event, a program of Dedham Shines. They are still accepting applications until April 1st if interested. Open Studios will be held on May 18th. Open the flyer to the left for more information or visit dedhamopenstudios.com.
