Congratulations to the DHS Winter Guard for their memorable performance at the New England Championships. The guard received a Gold Medal rating in the Festival Class of the New England Scholastic Band Association (NESBA) Finals. The guard was led by Senior co-captains Merissa Jansky and Stephanie O’Kane and Director Jackie Gaffney. Thanks to all parents who assisted the guard all season with transportation, equipment, and unending support.
The Dedham Middle School Symphonic Band performed at the MICCA Concert Festival on April 5th. Under the direction of Jeff Daniels, the band performed a challenging repertoire that earned praise from the judges. This is the first time the group has gone to this statewide festival for evaluation, held at King Philip High School. Great job!
The 2nd annual Don Heald Night of Jazz will be help in the Dunne Auditorium at DHS on Tuesday, April 8th. Featuring the middle and high school Jazz Bands, DHS choral groups, and a few student led ensembles, this tribute concert promises to offer a memorable night of entertainment. The concert starts at 7.
On Wednesday, April 30th, the All Town-Choral Concert will be held at DHS. This concert features all choral students town-wide from grade 5 through 12. Groups will perform separately and then combine for the last 3 pieces. This concert is always packed so get there well before the 7pm start. Donations will be accepted at the door to benefit all DPS music programs.
We have finalized the date for the annual DHS Fine Arts Awards. To be held on May 6th, these awards will recognize the achievements of band, chorus, theatre, winter guard and winter percussion students. The night begins at 7pm at the Endicott Estate with student performances, light refreshments, and then awards. Parents are invited. This event is organized and sponsored by the Music Association of Dedham High School.
The Music Association continues to invite parents of all Fine Arts students to join. If you are a parent of band, choral, or theater students, please sign up at any of the DPS spring events to get involved. As these programs continue to grow, parent and community help will be needed to give our students the support they need to maintain this growth. All these groups are attending festivals and performing publicly more than they have in years. Be a part of this growth by lending a hand.
If you can’t attend an event, contact Director of Fine Arts Jeff Bolduc at jbolduc.dedham.k12.ma.us to get on the DMA mailing list.
We are working on an art gallery to show off the talents of our DHS Art students. Here’s the latest from our DHS photography class:
