Art Show Poster 2014We are quickly approaching the Dedham Public Schools Art Show. This will be presented as a gallery showcase for student art work K-12 at Dedham Middle School on May 22nd from 6 to 8pm. There will be light snacks and drinks as well as musical performances by the DHS and DMS Jazz Bands. All are invited to celebrate the achievements of so many of our budding artists.

May will also see many musical performances as our performing students present their final concerts of the school year.

  • The All-Town Instrumental Concert will be held in the DMS Auditorium on May 15th. This concert will feature string students from grades 3 to 5; the combined 5th grade band from all four elementary schools; and the Dedham Middle School Bands. Band students from grades 5 to 8 will combine for a special finale performance to end the night.
  • The DHS Spring Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 20th in the Dunned Auditorium. Performances by the DHS Concert Band and Concert Choir, the DHS Jazz Band and AVE Chorus, and the DHS Winter Percussion Ensemble will round out this end of year showcase.
  • The Dedham Middle School Bands and Choirs will travel to Burlington, MA and Canobie Lake Park to play for evaluation at the Mass Bay Music Festival. Both groups will perform their concert repertoire for judges in the morning and then travel to Salem, NH for a fun afternoon.
  • DMS groups will also be performing at the DMS Spring Concert performances that same week. The instrumental groups will perform on Tuesday, May 20th and the choral groups on Thursday, May 22nd. Both concerts begin at 7pm.

We have reinstated the tradition of the DHS Concert Band traveling to all four elementary schools to encourage our younger students to take up an instrument and become part of the Dedham Band Program. They will perform at Greenlodge and Oakdale Schools on Monday, May 19th and Riverdale and Avery Schools on Thursday, May 22nd. Students have been issued permission slips and DHS Band students are looking forward to presenting a program of fun and entertaining music that promotes future musicians to grab an instrument and play!
