Our artists and performers are busy preparing their artwork, music, and dramatic performances to share with the Dedham community in the coming months. Art students at our elementary schools celebrated the International Day of Peace on September 21st. Students made ‘Pinwheels for Peace’ and decorated the grounds of their school with their creations. Thanks to Ms. Altone, Ms. Castonguay, and Mrs. Prata for organizing this event district-wide.
Our elementary instrumental lesson program is running on each of our 4 schools. Students may begin group lessons on string instruments starting in 3rd grade, and join the Dedham band program starting in 5th grade. The Dedham School of Music continues to organize this program in cooperation with Dedham Fine Arts. Info on this program can be found ->here.
The Dedham High School Marching Band and Chorus have made appearances at home football games. The band continues to add on to their ‘Summer of Love’ program, and will be performing at Gillette Stadium as part of the UMass Band Day on October 18th. The chorus sang the <-Star Spangled Banner at the Homecoming Game and continues to provide small groups and soloists to perform at community events.
The DHS Jazz Band, Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion are inviting members to join them for the upcoming winter season. All groups will feature larger numbers than in the past, and will be participating in regional festivals and competitions in February and March. If interested, contact Mr. Bolduc at DHS.
The DHS Drama Club will be presenting their annual Fall production on Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th. Students have been practicing daily to prepare their production of ‘All I Really Needed to Know I Learned from Being In A Really Bad Play’ for opening night. Ticket info will be posted here on this site in the November update.
We continue to receive updates on the ->Dedham Square Artist Guild events. For any fan of the visual arts, the Dedham Square Artists Guild provides opportunities for local artists to display their artwork and collaborate with other community advocates to promote their art. We’re happy to promote this mission.
