Congratulations to nine members of the Middle School Band for being selected to represent Dedham at the Bridgewater State University Middle School Honor Band Festival on October 8th. Students chosen to perform: flute: Julia Doyle and Victoria Gonzalez; clarinet: Rudecia Bernard; trumpet: Cookie Duncan, Eric Reilly, Matt Rotchford, and Will Shuley; trombone: Theo Ferentinos; percussion: Ryan Roberts. Participating students were from schools around eastern Mass. We’re very proud of this accomplishment and thank DMS band director Jeff Daniels for arranging this for his students.
The DMS a cappella chorus performed the Star Spangled Banner at the Providence Bruins Game on October 16th. Mr. Taylor has made this an annual journey, with students featured on ice and then enjoying the game.
The Dedham HS Drama Club will present their fall production of Neil Simon’s ‘The Good Doctor’ on November 13 and 14 at 7pm. The play consists of a series of short plays, based on short stories and other works by Russian writer Anton Chekhov. These stories are framed by a writer making comments on each play. New DHS Drama Advisor/Director Elizabeth Carlson feels this play will give many cast members the chance to be featured throughout the production. Tickets will be sold at the door in The Dunne Auditorium at DHS.
Elementary art teachers once again participated in International Day of Peace, September 21st, to create Pinwheels for Peace.
The goal of this worldwide project is to create a visual public statement about peace by constructing and displaying student made pinwheels. Thanks to our art teachers for promoting this annual initiative.
Our art teachers are also embracing new ways to share student work and ongoing needs in the art classrooms. Bridget O’Leary, art teacher at Riverdale and the ECEC, can be followed on Instagram. Her handle is @mrs.oleary_artroom. Sarah Altone ->, art teacher at Greenlodge and Oakdale schools can be followed @ms.altone. Both accounts are private so they will need to approve you before you can follow them.
