We have so many a’may’zing events happening this month! Drama, music, art shows – something for everyone.
The largest event happens over 200 miles from Dedham on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The DHS Band and AVE Chorus will be presenting a ‘Tribute to America’ at the Statue of Liberty on May 14th at 11am. Students have been preparing thier program since school began, and are very excited to represent Dedham in front of people from all over the world. They will also see a Broadway show and visit sites around Manhattan while in NYC. Check back here later in the month for pictures and a full recap of this exciting performance. They would like to thank the many community groups and local business that contributed to this trip. It wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of so many.
The Dedham High School Drama Club will present their annual spring productions on May 6 and 7 in the Dunne Auditorium. The plays include The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, and 10 Reasons to Stay Home Sick. The shows start at 7 – doors open at 6:30. Admission is $8. for adults, $5. for students and will be collected at the door.
Annual Spring Concerts will be held at both the high and middle schools this month. The DHS Concert will be two days after they return from NYC on May 17th. Performances by the band, chorus, jazz band, and AVE chorus will feature a variety of selections from our talented musicians. The middle school will have two concerts later in the month. The concert on Tuesday, May 24th will feature choral groups and the DMS Orchestra. All band students will perform on Thursday, May 26th. Concerts begin at 7pm.
One of the largest events on the Fine Arts calendar is the annual <-District Art Show. Dedham Middle School will become a large art gallery on Thursday, May 19th. Art work from students at every grade level and from every school will be on display from 5:30 to 8. There will also be music, snacks, and a lot of proud students sharing their creations with family and friends. Parking is always tricky for this event so arrive early!!
We wrapped up our string of All Town events at the All-Town Choral Concert in April. Almost 300 students combined for amazing final performances. Congratulations to all students and teachers for a memorable night of singing , and for sharing their talents to a packed house.
