As we move past the opening to another school year, the Dedham Fine Arts department prepares to offer exciting performance and artistic opportunities for students across the Dedham Public Schools. We encourage you to click on the Event calendar at the top of the page and mark you calendars to take in as many of these events as possible – they promise to be exciting!!
The DHS Marching Band is preparing their 2016 competitive program for home football games and competitions in the NESBA circuit. The band is led by Director Jeff Daniels and Drum Major Michael Curvin. This years program will be ‘Marvel vs. DC’, and features music from the Superman and Captain America movies. Look for them at any game in the coming weeks.
We are starting to register students for our after-school Elementary lesson programs. This program will once again be run by the Dedham School of Music, which is also welcoming new staff with the appointment of new Executive Director Amy Fichera. Instrumental demos are taking place now, with instrument rental night to be held in the DHS auditorium lobby on Tuesday, September 27th. We have put the registration packet and links to the online registration and instrument rental sites in the post at the top of the page. We will once again offer limited tuition and instrument scholarships for qualified students. It’s important that families intersted in these apply before 9/27.
We welcome two new teachers to the DHS fine arts faculty. Courtney Teixeira has been added to our art department and will be teaching in our newly renovated art studios. This has allowed us to expand our art course offerings and include students who may not have been able to take an art class in the past. Our new DHS Choral and Drama teacher is Nate Haywood. Nate is very excited to join us from the Newton school system and has already started planning for some memorable dramatic productions in the coming months. Good luck to both teachers.
