Fine Arts teachers across the school district are very excited to greet students, preK-12, to our programs. Music, art, and theater are integral parts of the DPS mission. We welcome the entire community to attend and support the performers and artists in all our schools throughout the school year. Check the Fine Arts Calendar above to find dates of our events. Art and Music teachers continue to find new ways to promote the achievements of our students, including Google Classroom, Google Sites, Instagram, Twitter, and of course this website. We encourage all parents and supporters of the arts in Dedham to follow any or all of these accounts to stay informed of the ongoing progress of our students. Look for updates on this site throughout the school year.
Instrumental students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are just starting the registration process to participate in our elementary lesson program. Demo’s of available instruments will happen in music classes in the next couple of weeks to expose students to details on how each is played. Third grade students can choose a string instrument (violin, viola, cello). Fourth and fifth grade students may choose string instruments, or start on a band instrument (flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, percussion). We have many students who are now in their second or third year of the program. Dedham School of Music has created an advanced band and advanced orchestra for these students. Conducted by DMS band and orchestra director Jeff Daniels, these lessons will allow students who are not beginners to continue to take lessons, but in an ensemble setting with an experienced teacher. Registration can be done by visiting Dedham School of Music. All forms need to be processed before Instrumental Rental Night at DHS on October 3rd.
The Dedham High School Marching Band unveiled their 2017 competitive show, Worlds of Warcraft, at the season opening football game on September 8. . Good luck to the entire band, color guard, and staff as they prepare for NESBA competition in October. They will end their season competing in the New England Championships on November 5th.
Students from the middle school and 5th graders from the Avery, Greenlodge, and Oakdale schools will be performing together at the Providence Bruins game on October 13th. Students will sing the Star Spangled Banner, God Bless Americs, and America the Beautiful in front of the crowd at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and get to watch the game with their friends and families. Thanks to all the music teachers who coordinated this trip to include so many interested students.
