We are proud to promote the amazing work of our students and teachers throughout the Spring. Thanks to the entire community for their support throughout the school year. The Music Association will host a Parent Meeting on June 6th in the DHS auditorium at 6:30. Parents of music/theater students in grades 8 – 12 are invited to find out about DHS programs, the Association, and how they support arts programs each school year.
DHS Junior Madison DeFelice was selected to Mass. Art All State, one of only 145 students state-wide to attend the two day program at UMass Dartmouth on June 8-9. This is quite an accomplishment and well deserved. A sample of Madison’s work:
Riverdale 3rd grade artist Alina Gutierrez won the Casella Calendar Art Contest. With 611 entries from 23 schools, Alina’s art will appear in the Waste Management 2019 calendar that promotes recycling using art work from winning students. She was presented a certificate and gift card by Casella Rep Susan Ahearn and Riverdale art teacher Bridget O’Leary at a grade-wide assembly.
May started with high school events including the Fine Arts Awards on May 2nd. After an Ice Cream Sundae Social, students from art, music, theater, and winter groups were recognized for group and individual accomplishments since September. Congratulations to the Class of 2018 for outstanding contributions to our arts programs throughout their 12+ years in DPS.
On May 4th the DHS Band and Chorus traveled to the <- Great East Music Festival in Springfield. Both groups received Gold Medal rankings for their performances. This was an exciting lead up to the annual Spring Concert on May 8th featuring the jazz band, string ensemble, chamber choir, concert band and chorus.
Just a few days later, the DHS Performing Arts Company presented the spring student-directed one acts. Audiences were treated to <- five plays that were chosen, staged, and directed by members of the theater group. We have posted a slide show from the spring productions in the PAC category.
