On behalf of the students and teachers in our department, Happy New Year! 2019 promises to see amazing creations and performances around Dedham. Last year ended with concerts at each school, often accompanied by art work celebrating winter themes. Thanks to music and art teachers for giving our students so many opportunities to share their talents with the community. Thanks also goes to the Dedham School of Music and their lesson teachers for providing instrumental performances at the elementary schools. You can find videos of all our school concerts on Dedham TV’s website. We’ve posted more pictures below.
At the 12/18 School Committee meeting, DHS Senior-> Joshua Wilson was recognized for his acceptance into the MMEA Eastern District Senior Chorus. This is Josh’s second appearance in the group. Last year Josh made both the district and All-State Choral groups. Quite an honor and well deserved.
DHS theater director Nate Haywood has announced that this year’s DHS musical will be the classic: Guys and Dolls. Auditions took place before vacation and the cast promises to wow the audience. There will be a Sunday matinee added to the schedule to give younger fans a chance to catch the show. Look back here for more info as the show approaches on March 15, 16, and now 17.
Both of the DHS winter groups are rehearsing regularly to prepare for their competitive seasons. Our Winter Guard will have their first performance on January 26that Salem HS. The show, featuring music from ‘The Greatest Showman’, is being choreographed by new Director Michael Lombo. Winter Percussion continues to develop their competitive program which has a ‘winter in summer’ theme and uses classical music to tell the tale of the seasons.
The annual music fundraiser ‘Many-Ways-to-Win-Raffle’ begins in January. Sponsored by the Music Association of DHS, this raffle offers gift cards and prizes donated by local businesses and music families to support our programs. Tickets are being sold by middle and high school music students leading up to the drawing at the All-Town Band Concert on February 6th.
That concert begins our All Town events over the next 3 months. These concerts, featuring students from grades 3 to 12 promise to showcase the talents of so many students.
