Band students across the district are preparing for the annual All-Town Band Concert, to be held in the DHS Gym on Wednesday, February 6th. Performances will include the combined elementary bands under the direction of teachers from the Dedham School of Music, as well as the middle and high school bands. The concert starts at 7 and donations will be accepted at the door.
Our music students continue to be accepted to prestigious district and all-state ensembles as we get into the new year. We highlighted DHS Senior Joshua Wilson in our last post. We’d now like to congratulate 8thgraders Lily Hyde and Teuven Wolfe for making the MMEA Eastern District Junior Festival Band. Eight Dedham students-> auditioned in early January. We also had three elementary students accepted to the Mass. All-State Treble Chorus. Abigail Lofurno from Avery, Lucas Boisvert from Oakdale, and Leila Chavez from Riverdale were chosen with students across the state. All of these students will be performing with these honors groups in March
We also want to recognize music teacher Heather Kirby as she has been chosen to receive the prestigious Lowell Mason Award at the MMEA All-State Conference in Boston on March 1st. The Lowell Mason Award is given annually to recognize a teacher who demonstrates outstanding leadership in music education; has made important contributions to music and music education; and has been a music educator for at least 15 years. We are very proud of Ms. Kirby for this well-deserved recognition at the state level.
Don’t miss this year’s DHS musical: Guys and Dolls. The cast and crew have been preparing such classics as ‘Luck Be a Lady Tonight‘ and ‘Sit Down Your Rockin’ the Boat’. There will be a Sunday matinee this year to give younger fans a chance to catch the show. Check back here for ticket info as the show approaches on March 15, 16, and now 17.
Once we get past the All-Town Band Concert, we prepare for a very busy month of March, with district music events taking place every week to celebrate National Music in Our Schools Month. These events promise to showcase the talents of so many students in every school.
