March Update

Congratulations to the cast and crew of Guys and Dolls, the musical presented by the DHS Class of 2019.  The story of high rollers saving their souls provided an entertaining night of live theater. The memorable songs and fantastic dance numbers wowed the crowd the entire weekend.  You can see a photo gallery in the Senior Musical link to the right. Thanks to director Nate Haywood and the entire cast and crew for a great run!

The craziness of Music in Our Schools Month continues with the All-Town Choral Concert on March 20th, and the All-Town String Concert on March 27th. The choral concert will feature singers from grades 5 through 12 and be held in the DHS Auditorium starting at 7.  Always a highlight are the combined numbers with almost 300 students singing together. Strings will be held at the middle school, also starting at 7.

Recent March events include the DHS Performing Arts Company annual participation in the statewide METG Dramafest->. This year DHS performed with 7 other schools at Attleboro HS. Their production of ‘The Audition’ earned several students acting excellence awards: Larisa Antonellis, Maddie Aucoin, Yahaira Torres, and Kat Uhrman. Yahaira won two awards for different roles she played.

The Don Heald Night of Jazz featured a varied repertoire of jazz and pop favorites performed by our ‘Jazzers’ from grades 6 to 12. Another event that keeps growing is the Family Night of Folk Dance. This year the event was held at Greenlodge and featured a live band to accompany the dances for the first time thanks to a grant from the Dedham Savings Bank. Always fun to see students, families, teachers, and even Principals dancing together to folk music from around the world. Thanks to Ms. Kirby, Mr. Molinaro, and Ms. Santos for all the amazing amount of prep it takes to bring students from the four Dedham elementary schools and the ECEC together for this event.

DHS Winter Percussion

The DHS Winter groups are having strong seasons with both taking 1stplace at their recent show at Salem HS in New Hampshire.  They will combine to present a Winter Showcase on Monday March 25th at 7pm in the DHS Gym.  All are welcome to this open house where both groups will present their program in the last public performance before the New England Championships.

At the March 6th School Committee many music and art students were recognized for their achievements over the past couple of months along with music teacher Heather Kirby. We have been recognizing many of these students in the past few posts for district and state awards (click on Past Updates), and are very proud of their accomplishments.  The following students will be representing Dedham at the MMEA Eastern District Treble Chorus festival held at Dedham Middle School on March 23rd:   From the Avery School: John Kelly, Mishel Lupu, Jacqueline Luszcz, Ingrid Masterson, Chizimuzo Okechukwu, Aoife O’Toole, and Oscar Umana Moldonado. From the Greenlodge School: Sadie Croscup, Fiona McCall, Katherine O’Connor, Maddie Perillo, and Keira Smid. From the Oakdale School: Rosa Akula, Tessa Boudreau, Corinne Elmore, Zella Hilbert, Alexa Janson, and Eva Stanesa. From the Riverdale School: Phoebe Blake and James Lynch; and from the Middle School:  Lucy Blazejewski, Kayden Celestin, Areti Tigglianidis, and Sofia Vaz. Congratulations to all students and their teachers for their acceptance.
